Champs Elysees

They are setting up an outdoor Chirstmas Market along the Champs Elysees, Venders rent these little huts that line the blvd on both sides. There has to be at least 100 or more and they are open from now until Christmas.

This is as little ride and display that they were setting up for the children

Walking down the Champs Elysees Blvd. This is the place to shop in Paris. There is alot of high end stores on the street as well as just a few name brand like Nike, etc.

It was quite early in the morning so the stores were just opening. We walked up one side and down the other, By the time we were heading back it was starting to get busy

Both sides of the street were lined with motorbikes, they have parking for the bikes because so many people ride them in Pasris

Sights of Paris

The Seine River
Our Hotel was across the street from the Seine River, We took a river tour the second day we were in Paris, It was very interesting, they have a a head set you can listen to, you just pick your language and then you can follow along as you cruise.

If you follow the river it will take you to most of the important tourist attractions.

There are alot of people living in houseboats along the Seine River, Our guide said the rent is much cheaper than an apartment but there is at least a 5 year wait to get one.

Sights of Paris

A guy sitting out in the middle of the street playing his accordian, It sounded just like the movies

Every street corner seems to have a coffee shop or a pizza parlor.

Sights of Paris

One of the many beautiful churches in Paris, They do not believe in anything small, All the churches are enormous and the detailing is amazing.

Overlooking the City, It was quite cold and overcast today, alot of the city was fogged in.

Another view of the church

It is quite hilly in certain parts of Paris, they just build stairs from one street or level to another. Most of the streets are done in cobblestone

First stop the Eiffel Tower

We arrived at our hotel about 1:00 p.m. and were out the door sightseeing by 1:30. Our hotel is 3 blocks from the Eiffel Tower so of course that was our first stop. It is quite the structure.

The guys selling thier wears reminds you of Mexico, It gets annoying after awhile. plus many scams going on to get you to donate money to the poor. You just have to ignore them when they come up to you.

There is a very large presence of the Army in many places in the city, all the tourist attractions mostly, they walk around with their guns monitoring the people.

Of course it is much colder here, Bruce and I are freezing, after all coming from 30 degree weather to 8 degrees is a bit of a culture change, We are afraid to go back to Calgary to -20 degrees, I won't be able to leave the house for a week.

November 17th , Paris

Well we arrived in Paris November 17th, it was a very long trip and we were both very tired when we landed.

Paris is a beautiful city, the architecture is very old and very beautiful. The detailing to the buildings is amazing.

We are staying at the Eiffel Seine Hotel, it is a quaint little place, only 70 rooms on 6 floors. We had to laugh, the elevator is so small Bruce and I have to face each other to fit in. The two us barely fit in with all our luggage.

We found out that Paris is very expensive. We went for dinner the first night, ordered a pizza and two coke. The pizza was $12 and the 2 cokes were $13. It is cheaper to order a beer than it is to order a pop.

This is our view out our window, we can see into peoples apartments.

Back to Arusha

A Masi Village on the way back to Arusha

Well we are back in Arusha, it is a very busy city, there are so many people on the streets it is overwhelming. I will never compain about drivers in Calgary again. Sometimes the vehicles are 4 wide when there is only 2 lanes. They just honk and cut in, the vehicle coming toward you just move over.

We have driven over 3000 km over the last 13 days, most days were at least 10 hours in the jeep. Some days were very long and boring because you did not see many animals, then you would come around a corner and there was a pride of lions or a large herd of elephants and it makes the day worth while.

We were very lucky, our guide was awesome. He had a great sense of humor and we shared alot of laughs.

Tonight we leave for Amsterdam, then on to Paris, not looking forward to the trip as it will take 14 hours to get there.
